How we see children
Children at Mi Casita learn through play, building social skills and emotional growth. The Creative Curriculum guides our teachers as they support how each child thinks, speaks, moves, and connects with others. We want every parent to feel at home here, and we congratulate you on looking closely at your child's early years. Since 1971, our little house has been a place where children begin a positive school experience.
Rooms are set up so a child can reach what they need: low shelves, soft corners for books, and space to move. Teachers sit on the floor at eye level, joining play rather than directing it. A daily rhythm carries children from one thing to the next with plenty of warning before a change. Children learn through play here, with socialization and emotional growth woven into ordinary moments.
Ana M. Trotter, Executive Director, and Melissa Molina, Program Director, lead a cheerful, dedicated staff always here to serve your children's needs. The Creative Curriculum focuses on cognitive, language, social/emotional, and physical development. Children learn through play. A visitor sees teachers on the floor with children, talking with them, guiding them through the daily rhythm.
What a day looks like
Mornings begin with a teacher greeting each child at the door. Your child finds a familiar spot, maybe a book or a toy, while you say goodbye. Some children settle quickly. Others need a few minutes beside a teacher. The routine stays the same, so children know what comes next. Parents can ask how we handle drop-off.
The middle of the day mixes play and small-group learning. Children build, paint, sort, and listen to stories, with teachers close by. Lunch comes next, then rest on cots with the lights low. Outdoor time gives everyone a chance to run and shout before settling back inside.
Late afternoon is quieter. Children wake from rest, have a snack, and drift into table toys or books while teachers tidy up. At pickup, a teacher tells you one true thing about your child's day: what they built, who they played with, how they ate. You leave knowing how the hours went.
How we work with families
At pickup, teachers tell you what your child did that day, not just that things were fine. If you have a question about biting, naps, or food, ask — teachers and directors answer directly. Mrs. Trotter is a native of the City of Camden, born and raised, and continues to serve families here.
New children usually start with shorter days and build up from there. A parent may stay a while in the room at first, then step out for a bit and come back. Teachers watch how your child settles and tell you honestly what they see. Ask about the first weeks when you enroll so the plan suits your child.

Tour the room
See the classroom your child would join and meet the teachers who run it. Ask anything you want to know about the day.

Enroll and settle in
Complete enrollment and plan a first week that suits your child's routine. Teachers work with you on the settling-in schedule.

Can we visit before deciding?
Yes. A tour is how most families decide, and children are welcome to come along.
What should my child bring on the first day?
Pack a full change of clothes, including socks, in a labelled bag. Bring a comfort item from home if your child uses one for naps. Label everything, especially cups, bags, and outer layers.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
Schedules depend on your child's age group and what openings we have. Call or email and we will tell you what is available for your child.
What if there is no place right now?
If we have no place right now, ask to be told when one opens for your child's age. We will let you know when a spot comes up.
